Playing for Time"It is really hard to do comedy; it takes a lot of energy and focus. It's rather like music: It's a lot of hitting notes precisely."
"It's the thing that you do well that brings you to prominence. The very thing that brings you to success can also be like a curse, because then people think that's all you can do."
"I wish I didn't have to live up to anything."
"Acting is like a high wire act. Your margin for error is very slim."
Christine at 61st Emmy Awards - 2010

An outstanding cast highlights the 1980 television movie "Playing for Time," based on the memoirs of Fania Fenelon, a Jewish cabaret singer in Paris during the Nazi invasion. She, like thousands of Jews and political prisoners, was sent to the Auschwitz death camp.
There Fenelon and a group of other classical musicians performed, as a way to spare their lives. This included playing music as prisoners were herded into gas chambers.
"Playing for Time" was adapted for
television by playwright Arthur Miller ("Death of a Salesman") and
directed by Daniel Mann ("The Rose Tattoo"). The great Vanessa Redgrave
(Oscar winner for "Julia") plays Fenelon. Shirley Knight is the SS camp
matron. Others in the cast include Jane Alexander, Maud Adams, Marisa
Berenson, Christine Baranski, Verna Bloom and Viveca Lindfors. Redgrave,
Alexander and Miller won Emmys.

7. Diane is the show's real glamour-puss.
Surprise, surprise: Diane's duds are the most expensive, says Lawson, who says she's his favorite character to dress. "She's so chic and high-end." He showed off a few of Diane's luxe pieces, including a red Christian Dior jacket and a Calvin Klein blouse she'll be wearing this season. Still, even fabulous Diane loves a good bargain. Lawson beamed with pride over a $5,000 Oscar De La Renta number he found at an outlet mall for a mere $400, telling us that Baranski loved it so much, she borrowed it to wear to her daughter's wedding.
4. Diane's and McVeigh's relationship may be on hold. The prognosis on this unlikely pair remains unclear. "I'm not sure you will see much of him initially," Baranski told me. But fear not, for McVeigh's absence may have more to do with logistics than romantic incompatibility. "Gary [Cole] went off to do a play in Australia. So, Diane is pining away. Maybe I'll have some phone calls," Baranski said. Perhaps it's best these two are apart until after the midterm elections, anyway; otherwise things could get ugly.

While long gowns and jewel tones ruled the red carpet at the Emmy Awards, Christine Baranski made a statement in her own typically theatrical way: She wore a vintage 1970s black tuxedo jacket and pants by Yves Saint Laurent.
"You know what, I bought this in Paris at a vintage store when I was in Paris seeing the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective," said Baranski, who lost supporting actress in a drama series for "The Good Wife" to her co-star Archie Panjabi. "He's my favourite designer and so I decided, why not do the guy thing this year? It's so much easier than having a train and worrying about your cleavage and all of that. I'm loving it."
Didn't she look gorgeous?
